Seda Platinum Incubator

The seda Platinum Incubator (SPI) specializes in assisting aspiring jewellers live their dreams and build careers in the design and manufacture of platinum group metal (PGM) jewellery.

To help interested individuals acquire the skills required for jewellery manufacturing, the SPI has teamed up with ORBIT FET College. The College teaches a National Certificate in Jewellery Manufacturing in a mass production environment, an accredited NQF Level 3 qualification. In addition, small PGM jewellery manufacturing enterprises and individuals are housed at the centre – either physically or virtually. This process is called incubation.

For any individual business in the centre, incubation is expected to take three years, after which a business must be able to operate independently with all business systems in place. The initial thrust of the SPI is the manufacture of high quality platinum jewellery for selected local markets and export markets. In addition, the incubator includes a training centre to ensure skills transfer to and upliftment of historically disadvantaged South Africans.

The seda Platinum Incubator seeks to create an internationally recognised centre of platinum beneficiation excellence.  In seeking this vision, the incubator will cooperate with stakeholders in both the private and public sector.

The seda Platinum Incubator is dedicated to the advancement of skills in the beneficiation of platinum group metals (PGMs), and in so doing, the building of an internationally competitive small and medium enterprise PGM cluster.
